Yellow and White Quilled Jhumkas

Here is a tutorial on making a pair of quilledjhumkas with studs using paper quilling strips.

Tools Needed:

  • paper quilling strips
  • flat back pearls.
  • Wire Cutter
  • Round Nose Pliers
  • Flat Nose Pliers

Making process of Quilled Jhumkas:
Step 1:
Insert a paper strip in a slotted quilling needle.
Keep quilling till you make a tight coil of the desired size. Quilling strips of two colors were glued together before quilling the coil. Glue the end so that the coil is secure.

Step 2:
Slide and remove the coil from the slotted tool.

Step 3:
Using your finger gently push from the center of one side of the coil to form a cup like structure. Apply a coat of fabric glue on the inside of the cup and the outside. Allow it to dry. The structure will be secure now.

Step 4:
Insert an eye pin from the bottom of the cup. Insert a small metal bead spacer on the top. Make a small loop at the top of the jhumka as shown. Round nose pliers have been used to make this loop.

Step 5:
Insert a jump ring into the loop. You can use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump ring. Now for the top part or the stud, make a smaller tightly quilled paper coil.

Step 6:
Glue on a flat back pearl at the center of this coil. This step is optional. Now apply glue on a earring post.Attach the small coil made in step 12 to the earring post. It has to hold on well… allow it to dry completely.

Step 7:

Slide the jump ring attached to the jhumka in the wire of the earring post and insert the ear backs.Repeat the steps above for the other earring.  And we have the completed pair of quilled jhumkas…

How to make Quilled Earrings

The posted about fashionable quilled chandbali earrings decorated with urad dal beads. Chandbali earrings are very beautiful, heavy weight , traditional earrings in the shape of chand ( moon). They are suitable for all festive occasions and goes well with saree. Here i have made a simple chandbali design earring using paper. This earring can be worn with salwars and kurta. To purchase this kind of quilled earrings click here.

Needed materials:
1.      Quiling strips of color – dark pink, green, red, and Brown
2.      Quiling tool
3.      Acryllic paints
4.      Scissors and glue
5.      Earring hook and rings
6.      White urad dal (beads, stones, pearls can be used)

Making procedure:
Make a hoop
Take a red colour strip , cut into half and wind it around a circular object to get a hoop used the glue bottle cap .

Take the brown strips and cut into 5 equal parts. Join all the strips and quill into a tight coil. Arrange these coils inside the hoop and glue them.

Take a brown strip and do beehive quilling. Click here to learn Beehive quilling

Stick the brown colour beehive strips to the bottom of the hoop. Below this paste the red strip.

Take red and white small strips and quill into tight coils. Stick these below the white strips.

Instead of beads i used white urad dal for decoration. Wash the urad dal , dry it and then paint them using acrylics.
